US allocate $25 million for Marawi rehabilitation thrusts
LANAO DEL SUR --- The United States government on Tuesday promised $25 million for the rehabilitation of the conflict-wracked Marawi City.US Ambassador Sung Kim announced the support package during his visit to Marawi City on Tuesday.He and local officials have agreed to continue cooperation in restoring normalcy in the conflict-torn Marawi City, the capital of Lanao del Sur.While in Marawi City, the ambassador had a dialogue with Mayor Majul Gandamra and Lanao del Sur Gov. Soraya Alonto-Adiong.Gandamra is also presiding chairperson of the Marawi City inter-agency peace and order council.Kim also led the launching of local projects of the United States Agency for International Development meant to complement the restoration of normalcy in Marawi City, devastated by the May 23 to August 16, 2017 conflict there that combined Maute and Abu Sayyaf terrorists instigated.Adiong, whose office also has local programs complementing efforts of rebuilding Marawi City, said their meeting with the US ambassador was fruitful.Adiong said Kim assured of the US government’s support to efforts of rebuilding Marawi City from the devastation wrought by last year’s five-month conflict in the area.While in Marawi City, Kim also visited the Amai Pakpak Central Elementary school to inspect on-going USAID-assisted humanitarian projects there.
