KORONADAL CITY (Sept. 18/NDBC) – Two security guards were killed, two other
guards and two minors were wounded when six armed men robbed a pawnshop
Thursday noon, police said.
Supt.
Nestor Salcedo, Koronadal City police chief, said the gunmen arrived on three
motorcycles and parked beside the Agencia Brillantes pawnshop along Osmenia
Street, Koronadal City at past 12.
At
about 12:35, they barged inside the pawnshop and shot dead security guard Joan
Lazaga. Another security guard, Aron Tamayo assigned at Fitmart Department
Store responded but he too was shot dead.
Wounded
were security guards Noel Villaroel of Agencia Brillantes and Alfredo
Pagaringan of Ace Centerpoint.
Wounded
during the shootout between the robbers and security guards also wounded two
minors, aged 14 and 17.
Before
fleeing the crime scene, the suspects tossed a hand grenade but it did not
explode. Bomb experts later detonated
the ordnance.
Quoting
witnesses, Salcedo said one of the suspects was wounded during shootout with
security guards.
Salcedo
said his men are still pursuing the suspects who fled toward Lutayan, Sultan
Kudarat.
The
daylight robbery was a daring attempt by gunmen since the pawnshop was located
in the city’s commercial district.
Police
could not say as of yet whether the suspects managed to take cash or jewelry
from the pawnshop. (NDBC)
