Unattended candle triggers Marawi City fire
MARAWI CITY - Fire officials said the fire that gutted several establishments in the city market was triggered by an unattendedcandle at the height of the power interruption in the area.In her report,Samira Gutoc-Tomawis of Young Moro Professionals Network said the fire started in the house of a former provincial official near the Market Plaza.It quickly spread to nearby stalls.She said the presence of civilians and establishment owners trying to salvage valuables prevented the firemen from effective fire fighting activities.She quoted an official of the Bureau of Fire Protection who told the City Peace and Order Council Meeting about the civilians taking the fire fighting action from firemen.The Fire and Some Good NewsMarawi - Smiling cops greeted us at the 1st City Peace and Order Council morning Meeting but later a teary fire marshall after a hazy evening combating a fire that gutted a portion of the public plaza after Aisha prayer. She saidAyah Ampang of the Marawi City government told MPOC members that a new fire and police station will be put up near the city hall and commercial district.Two platoon from the Regional Public Safety Battalion will be deployed in the city to help maintain law and order.
