Suspected NPAs torch Paglas Corp. container van loaded with bananas for export
KIDAPAWAN CITY – Suspected New Peoples
Army guerillas torched Monday night a refrigerated container van filled with
banana for export in Makilala, North Cotabato, police said.
Supt. Romeo Galgo Jr, speaking for police in Central
Mindanao, about 10 gunmen who claimed they were communist rebels flagged down
the Davao City bound 40-footer container truck in Sitio Flortam, Barangay
Batasan, Makilala, North Cotabato at past 9 p.m.
According to truck driver, Toto Bilayo Omar, he
thought the armed men were soldiers so he pulled over only to be ordered at gun
point to alight.
Then the suspects doused gasoline and set the container
truck ablaze.
It triggered massive traffic snarl since the vehicle
was situated at the roadside. It took
firefighters to reach the site about 30 minutes due to traffic.
