Sueno to publicand Don’t use electrical ‘jumpers’

Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael ‘Mike’ D. Sueno warns the public that the use of illegal electrical connections or ‘jumpers’ may cost them their lives and properties. Don’t use jumpers. That is electricity theft. But more than that, this will cause electricity overloading which is a frequent cause of fire, said Sueno. If you think you are getting away with not paying electricity because of jumpers, think again. Baka magsisi ka kapag nasunog na ang bahay mo o may nadisgrasya sa inyo, he said.The DILG Secretary issued the warning as the Bureau of Fire Protection-National Capital Region joined hands with the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) in launching its weekly fire prevention campaign at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.At the launching of Lingguhang Babala para Iwas Disgrasya ,BFP–NCR Director SSupt. Wilberto Rico Neil Kwan Tui said the Pasay City Fire Station and Meralco should continue to conduct inspection on illegal and flying connections in the city which is the number one cause of fire in the metropolis for the pasttwo years.For his part, Pasay City Fire Marshal Supt. Carlos Duenas said the city’s fire department, fire volunteers, and barangay officials will hold massive house-to-house visitations to make the residents more fire-safety conscious.Duenas saidbarangay officials must also provide easy access to fire-prone areas and remove road obstructions to ensure that firetrucks can respond to emergencies and fire incidents faster.Other activities held during the launch were Quiz Bee and Poster Making Contest for elementary students which focused on the importance of fire prevention awareness at home and in the community.
