Series of quakes hit Lanao Sur, Bukidnon

COTABATO CITY – A series of earthquake hit Wao, Lanao del Sur before today
Friday, including the first which was recorded at Magnitude 5.1, the state
volcanology office today said.

In a bulletin,
the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the
first tremor came at 2:57 a.m. and traced four kilometers east of Wao, Lanao
del Sur and has a depth of 9 kilometers.

No immediate
report of casualties or damages to properties, the Phivolcs said.

Intensity 5 was felt in Wao and nearby town of Kadingilan in Bukidnon, Intensity 4 and 3 in
in Pangantukan and Maramag, Bukidnon, respectively.

Intensity 3
was felt in Cagayan de Oro City.

At about 3:06
a.m., Intensity 2.7 also shook Wao and felt at Intensity 3 in Kadingilan
town. Six minutes later, another tremor
was reported by Phivolcs.

All were
tectonic in origin.

In September
24 this year, a series of strong earthquakes rocked parts of Mindanao capped by
the magnitude 5.4 quake that was traced in the town of Wao in Lanao del Sur.

The quakes
damaged properties, infrastructures and houses, Phivolcs said.

Following
today’s tremors, the Office of Civil Defense in the Autonomous Region in Muslim
Mindanao (OCD-ARMM) has sent teams to Wao to assess the situation and to
determine what intervention the office can extend to affected families.
