Series of earthquakes hit Davao Occ, North Cotabato

COTABATO CITY - A magnitude 5.2 earthquake today hit Davao Occidental, the second in the area in an hour, the fifth in Mindanao on Saturday,the
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in its
bulletin.

The quake, traced 34 kilometers east of Saranggani town in Davao
Occidental, was tectonic in origin and occurred at 8:29 p.m.

It has a depth of focus of 126 kilometers.

No casualty or damage to property was reported. Intensity I was
felt in Gen. Santos City and Saranggani provincial capitol in Alabel town.

No aftershock is expected, Phivolcs said.Earlier, at 7:27 p.m., a magnitude 4.0 quake also hit Saranggani town, according to Phivolcs. It was tectonic in origin and traced 126 kilometers south of Davao Occidental.The quake has a depth of 132 kilometers.At 6:20 p.m. Saturday, a magnitude 3.2 also hit Carmen, North Cotabato. Phivolcs said the tectonic quake was traced 12 kilometers from Poblacion Carmen, North Cotabato.The Carmen quake has a depth of 22 kilometers and triggered by movement of underground plates.At 1:33 a.m. today, amagnitude 4.7 earthquake hit Davao City and its environs with the intensity felt as far as Gen. Santos and Cotabato City.The tremor which was tectonic in origin was traced 16 kilometers north of Davao City.It has a depth of 14 kilometers, according to a news bulletin by Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).Nobody was hurt and no reported damages.Phivolcs said Intensity IV was felt in Davao City Kidapawan City, Intensity III in Makilala, North Cotabato, Intensity II in Kabacan and Arakan, both in North Cotabato and Cotabato City and Intensity I in Gen. Santos City.At 12:58 a.m. a magnitude 3.8 hit the town of Taranggona, Davao Oriental. It was traced 229 kilometers south of Taranggona and tectonic in origin.
