Security up for start of SK and Barangay election period

GEN. SANTOS CITY -- Cops in Region
12 are being prepared for upcoming May 14 2018 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan
Election (BSKE).
Chief Superintendent Marcelo C Morales, the
Regional Director (RD) of Police Regional Office 12 said in a statement that
all PNP personnel in R-12 are being readied for the entire election period
which will run April 14, 2018 to May 21, 2018.
This is part of our readiness and commitment
along with the AFP and other law enforcement agencies to ensure the success of
the election as deputized to perform functions mandated by the COMELEC and
other related activities during election period, said Morales.
The COMELEC said that carrying and possessing
firearms during election period are only allowed to regular members of the
Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other law
enforcement agencies of the Government who are duly deputized in writing to
perform election duty, but should be in the following requisitesand (a) in full
uniform showing clearly and legibly his name, rank and serial number, which
shall remain visible at all times, and (b) in the actual performance of his
election duty in the specific area designated by the Commission. We will adhere and comply with the COMELEC
directives to ensure a secure, safe and fair conduct of the synchronized BSKE.

There always have been issues and problems that
we encountered based on previous elections that we in the PNP experienced just
like intense political rivalries, vote-buying and other factor affecting the
elections that resulted in violent incident, however those Election Related
Incidents (ERI’s) already decreased. Said RD Morales.
We activated the Regional Joint Security Coordinating
Council as early as March 2018 chaired by Regional Election Officer, PRO 12
Regional Director as Vice-Chairman, and the AFP and we started planning for
security of BSKE, and the same time has started pre-election conferences with
different law enforcement agencies, conducted review and assessment of the
previous SK and Barangay Elections. Morales said that PRO 12 will have a maximum deployment of
personnel all over Region XII on May 14, 2018.
A conference is set on
April 16, 2018 for every Provincial and City Directors to present their
Security Plan for Secure And Fare Election or S.A.F.E 2018 synchronized BSKE in
