MAITUM, Sarangani - The Local
Government Unit (LGU) of Maitum in Sarangani Province signed recently a
memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Save the Children, a child-oriented
non-government organization (NGO) to seal their partnership in
implementing programs in schools and in communities that aim to benefit the
children of Maitum.

Since 2015, the Maitum LGU and Save the Children have been working together
in providing quality programs for children in schools and in the community. In an 8-page
agreement, both parties vowed to share responsibilities in delivering effective
and sustained programs for children in various aspects including health,
education, and disaster preparedness, among others. Some of the programs
specified in the MOA includeand the First 1,000 Days, Kapitbahay Aralan,
Alternative Delivery Mode of Basic Education, Adolescent Sexuality and
Reproductive Health, Risk Reduction and Resilience, and Water, Sanitation, and
Hygiene in School.

All programs outlined in the MOA are implemented in 17 barangays of the
municipalityand Old Poblacion, Kiayap, Sison, New La Union, Wali, Zion, Mabay,
Kalaneg, Upo, Mindupok, Kalaong, Ticulab, Maguling, Pinol, Kiambing, Pangi, and
Malalag Poblacion.

Maitum Vice Mayor Freddie Balazon and Save the Children representatives
signed the MOA in front of LGU representatives and community members. The MOA
is set to be effective until 2022.

Meanwhile, 133 volunteers in Maitum composed of parents, teachers and
other community members were inducted by Save the Children during the
Municipal Program Kick-off and Volunteer Induction Program on the same day.

The
child-based NGO engaged local volunteers living or working within the community
in order to be able to deliver their programs to hard-to-reach areas in the
municipality and to allow the locals to be familiar with these programs. In order for the volunteers to be able to support child-friendly programs
and promote advocacy for children, the Save the Children will provide them with
meaningful training on various child-oriented topics, such as parenting,
nutrition, child rights, gender, reading, and child development.Photo below showsSave the Children’s Vivien Grace
