PCIC allots P175-M for R-12 farmers insurance
KORONADAL CITY, South
Cotabato, (PIA) -- The government-owned and controlledPhilippineCrop
Insurance Corporation (PCIC) has allotted P175.492 million forfreeinsurance
coverageforfarmers and fisher folk inNorthCotabatoandSultan
Kudarat provinces.
RoseGabulan, marketing division
chiefofPCIC-12, told Philippine Information Agency 12thatbesidesthis
amount, theirofficehasalso been allotted P9.895 million
forbeneficiaries inLanaodelNorte, making theirtotalbudgetforgovernmentpremium
sharetoP185.387 million.
Under theprogram, thegovernment
will pay the insurance premiumsforcrop andnon-crop insurance that
would protectindigent farmers and fisher folkagainst
lossesdue to cropdamage as a result of calamities such as flood and
drought or pest and diseases.
Includedinsuranceproductsarericeinsurance,
corn insurance,high valuecropsand other crops insurance,
non-crop insurance (such asfarm machineries, etc.), and livestock
andfisheries insurance, she elaborated further.
Gabulanfurthernoted that
the free insurancepremiums maybe availed byfarmers
andfisherfolkwhose namesarelisted in the
RegistrySystem forBasicSectors in Agriculture (RSBSA)
providedby the Department ofBudgetand Management.
RSBSAis a nationwidedatabase
of baseline information of farmers, farmers and fisher folkgatheredby
the DBM, National Statistics Office, Department of Agriculture, Department of Agrarian Reform,
Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the
NationalAnti-Poverty Commission.
Government planners and policymaker
use these data in formulating programs andpolicies for the agriculture
