Parang, Basilan NHS students rule ARMM-RFOT debate, essay writing, song writing competition
COTABATO CITY
– A student from Parang National High School in Parang, Maguindanao bested
other participants in the Commission on Population and Department of Education
in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Regional Festival of Talents (RFOT)
debate on Monday.

Mato of Parang National High School of Maguindanao II Division, ruled the
debate category, according to Elban Iglupas of POPCOM-12 information office.
This year’s
theme of RFOT is Post Millennial Filipinosand Renewed Hopes vs. Risks. It was
held on January 17 at the POPCOM regional office in Cotabato City.
Prior to the
debate, Iglupas said, the participants from different schools division in ARMM were
encouraged to use their critical analysis and logic about the different issues
concerning the country today.
Issues picked
by the debaters were insurgencies in the provinces, matters and issues on
gender and society, peace and order and the country’s foreign and economic
policies.
Arnie S.
Alfaro from Lamitan National High School of Lamitan Division in Basilan was the
second placer while Radzmia K. Usman GLACI-CMI of Maguindanao I Division was
third prize winner.
Meanwhile, Bai
Jasmin G. Mentang of Notre Dame of Parang Maguindanao Division was declared
champion in the jingle writing and singing contest. Her song was entitled
Abakada.
Abdul Hakim M.
Ote of Datu Mintal Adiong National High School from Divison of Lanao del Sur I
took the second place while the third place was Phyche Mae B. Dalogdog from
Lamitan City Division.
Winners of the
essay writing contest were Mohamad Madar Edris from Maluso National High
School, Mon Adrian Tungao from Datu Saudi Uy Ampatuan Memorial National High
School, and Jamina Ampuan from Sultan Abdul Madid Maruhom Memorial National
High School for the first, second and third places, respectively.Iglupas said
the RFOT on the spot skills exhibition was aimed at empowering and give voice to
the youth as a contributing factor in the society.
Winning
participants will represent the ARMM Region in the National Festival of Talents
to be held in Dumaguete City on February 20 – 23, 2018.
