North Cotabato cop gets Napolcom top award
KIDAPAWAN CITY (Sept. 11/NDBC) – While some policemen were involved in kidnapping, murder and other crimes in Metro Manila, some of them are getting awards for dedication and gallantry.One of them was a senior policeofficer in North Cotabato who risked his life and that of his men in defending the police office.For leading his men although outnumbered against attackers, Police Senior Inspector Bernabe Rubiowas recognized by the National Police Commission (Napolcom) during its 48th foundation anniversary in Quezon City.Undermanned as compared to the attackers, Rubio, chief of President Roxas police office in North Cotabato, led his men of 15 against some 100 New Peoples Army rebels on May 20 who tried to overrun the police headquarters.Napolcom sadwas Rubio given the award to serve
as model for other police officers in the country.
In a
statement, Lawyer Edilberto Fermil, Napolcom-12 regional director, said Rubio
has shown determination, dedication and bravery in leading his 15 men against
about a 100 New Peoples Army rebels who tried, but failed, to overrun the Pres.
Roxas town police office.
Four guerrillas,
including a field commander and a sub leader, were killed when the police, led
by Rubio, held their ground and traded bullets with the attackers for about an
hour.
Fermil
said the police regional office in Region-12 had already recognized Rubio’s
bravery and gallantry and he deserved a national award.
He was
one of the three police officials in the country who were awarded by Napolcom
during its foundation anniversary in Quezon City. (NDBC)
