NorCot village asks for Army detachment
MATALAM, North
Cotabato (Sept. 10/NDBC) – Local officials and residents of a remote village here
have asked the Army to put up a detachment here after gunmen traded bullets
Sunday.
Herminio
Doong, village chair of Estado, Matalam, said the village council has passed a
resolution asking the Army 7th Infantry Battalion to deploy soldiers
after Moro rebels strafed civilian communities for still unknown reason.
Doong said the
resolution was already forwarded to the Army battalion but no soldiers have so
far been deployed in the village.
said residents
fear that the armed group would attack the center of the barangay since they were
located about 200 meters away from the armed group’s position.
The barangay
official said land conflict was the main purpose of the group’s harassment in
the village.A day-long exchange of bullets disrupted regular weekend for residents of Estado when a village official's cargo truck was strafed by gunmen. The official's followers retaliated, triggering a day-long exchange of bullets. No casualty was reported. (NDBC)
