Marine from Tacurong shot dead colleague in Basilan

COTABATO CITY -- A soldier from Tacurong City is now in jail after a shootout between him and his superiorat Marine detachment in the village of Calang Canas,Maluso town inBasilan, police and the Western Mindanao Command said.Radio reports quotedLt. Gen. Rustico Guerrero, Wesmincom chief, as saying that the soldiers, both belonging to Marine Battalion Landing Team 11 (MBLT-11) had 'personal rift.'He identified the slain soldier asSergeant Errol Chaves, 31 of Bingawan, Iloilo while the suspect as Private First Class Dave Bryan Abang, 23 of Tacurong City. Abang was also wounded in the shootout.Police reports said the two were on duty at a detachment with Chaves was on duty as Sergeant of the Guard (SOG) and Abang as among the Marine duty sentinel.Police and military officials could not say what exactly triggered the shootout which took place at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
