COTABATO CITY -- Emotions ran high at a funeral parlor here Tuesday as a Philippine Marine
corporal put his engagement ring to his slain fiancée.

In tears, Marine
Corporal Raymond Partosa, quietly put his engagement ring into the fingers of
Betsy Yap, 31, who was killed in an ambush on May 5 in Sitio Tenorio, Barangay
Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

Yap, a
registered nurse and staff of the Humanitarian Emergency Action Response Team
of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (HEART-ARMM), was engaged to
Partosa and both have planned to marry next year.

Yap was 2-month
pregnant.

Yap’s co-workers
in ARMM and her family were holding a prayer session prior to her transport to
South Upi, Maguindanao for burial on Saturday when Partosa, who fought the
terrorists in Marawi City, approached her mother seeking permission he will be
allowed to put on his engagement ring to Yap as people nearby shed tears.

At past 4 p.m.
on May 5, Yap was with her mother, town Councilor Beatrice Yap, and three
others on board a car when a lone gunman opened fire on them. Yap, who was seated on the front seat, received most of the bullets from cal. 45 pistol.

Her mother and
another councilor escaped unhurt but the driver and another man sustained injuries.
The gunman fled with an accomplice driving the getaway motorbike.

Motive of the
attack remained unknown to date. Police investigation continues. (Ferdinandh
