March 8 is ‘Buntis Day’ at CRMC
Cotabato Regional and Medical Center,
the Department of Health Region 12, and DOH-ARMM jointly celebrated National
Buntis Day Thursday, with the theme Kaagapay ni Buntis sa Panahon ng
Kalamidad at Krisis.
An unexpected 446 participants and 80
barangay health workers and midwives from the different barangays in the city
were present in the CRMC Auditorium which was not enough to hold the number of
people.
Aside from pregnant women from the
barangays, outpatients of the hospital were also invited.
Health units in barangays were
instructed to disseminate information about the event in order to give their pregnant
clientelle the opportunity to be educated in time of pregnancy. Doctors gave
talks on pre-natal care, family planning, breast feeding, buntis disaster
preparedness, and dental care in pregnancy in a forum.
A dance exercise routine, or hataw,
for the pregnant women was also conducted early in the morning before the
formal start of the forum inside the CRMC Auditorium.
The first two hundred pregnant women to
arrive were able to receive free laboratory services like CBC and urinalysis,
while 20 slots were raffled for free ultrasound.
The Buntis Day has been a yearly
activity of the Philippine Obstetrics and Gynecology Society (POBS) but, according to Dr. Cheryl Sabio, CRMC’s chief resident of the department of
OB-Gynecology, CRMC has been the most active in implementing the activity.
Sabio said they were not expecting the
influx of people. Luckily, they were prepared for emergencies.
The activities are part of the month-long
celebration of Women’s Month. (April Piquero/NDU-BAComm3)
