Maguindanao retrieval operations of cops completed
CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao - The joint government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front on Tuesday has terminated the retrieval of the remains of slain Police special unit who figured in a bloody encounter with Moro rebels in Mamasapano town Sunday.Brig.
Gen. Carlito Galvez Jr., chair of the govenrment Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH), said all the remains of slain police officers have been retrieved.Galvez lauded the participation of the Malaysian-led International Monitoring Team and his counterpart in the MILF for quick reaction which saved the lives of about 30 other policemen wounded in the clash, including one who was the last to be rescued in a marshy area of Barangay Tukanalipao.A police source said one of the SAF members who was wounded recounted the incident to investigators but his story appeared to be a mess since he was still in the state of shock.Chief Supt. Noel Armilla, police director in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao whose jurisdiction covers Maguindanao, confirmed the rescue of one junior police officer who hid in a marsh while the retrieval operation was on going.The same source said the officer saw how the MILF rebels mutilated and shot at close range his wounded companions. He survived to tell the story, one Army official said.
