Maguindanao LP bet shot dead in Cotabato City

COTABATO CITY - A candidate for town councilor in Maguindanao under the ruling Liberal Party was shot dead by still unidentified gunman Wednesday evening nearthe city plaza.
Police identified the victim as Macawali Saranga, 38, a resident of Oring, Buldon, Maguindanao.Investigation showed that Saranga was standing at the corner of Don Rufino Avenue and Dorotheo Street, just beside the Cotabato Puericulture Center and General Hospital when shot at 7:20 p.m.
The victim who accompanied a sick relative at the hospital was talking with some friends when unidentified gunman approached him from behind and shot him in the head with cal. 45 pistol.
He died on the spot.Relatives told police investigators of Police Station 1 that Saranga is running for councilor of Buldon in this year's election.
The killing of Saranga happened hours after LP standard bearer Mar Roxas was visiting Cotabato City where he spoke with party members.
Quoting relatives, police said the victim has been receiving death threats due to family feud or rido. (Ferdinandh Cabrera)
