KORONADAL CITY – Alert bus driver and villagers prevented an attempt by unidentified
armed men to set on fire a Husky bus in Tantangan, South Cotabato, police said.

The Husky bus
with body number 5088 and license plate 658-756 was heading to this city from
Tacurong City with six passengers, including two women.Senior Supt.
Franklin Alvero, South Cotabato police provincial director, said one of the
passengers who boarded the bus in Tacurong City directed the driver, at
gunpoint, to divert the vehicle toward Lagos Farm in Barangay Bukay Pait.

About 50
meters from the highway, more armed men were waiting and they ordered the
driver to put off the vehicles lights. Then the gunmen told everyone to vacate
the bus.

Other suspects
doused gasoline inside and outside the bus.
One suspect shot the vehicle’s CCTV camera.

Gonzales, the bus has only two passengers from Isulan, Sultan Kudarat. In Tacurong City, two men and two men boarded
in front of Fitmart Mall.

Villagers
noticed something unusual and came to the passengers’s rescue. They also helped put off the blaze at the
engine compartment at the rear of Husky bus.

Alvero said
the unit sustained minor damages.

Nobody was
hurt.

incident of bus burning in Region 12 believed to be carried out by communist guerrillas.

Police
recovered four empty containers for gasoline and bamboo sticks with attached
cloth as fire instruments.

Two weeks ago,
a unit of Yellow Bus Lines was torched in Tupi, South Cotabato and on Thursday
in Kiamba, Sarangani province.

Alvero said
the suspects have the same modus operandi in burning public transport vehicles.

On Saturday, a unit
of YBL was torched in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.
