LASURECO reform program improving
MARAWI CITY (Sept.
13/NDBC) – The reforms in the Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative (LASURECO)
management and operation are gaining headway, a month into the creation of the
LASURECO Task Force.
Created on
August 8, the Task Force yielded renewed confidence from stakeholders,
especially the Ulama” (Muslim religious leaders) and media in its mission of
re-energizing Lanao del Sur province.
How the Task
Force did it? Massive information drive was a strategy taken by the
LASURECO Task Force to involve consumers and stakeholders in supporting the four
decades-old electric cooperative.
Communication
groups, like the SAKSI Radio Frequency, a local civic club, had been monitoring
and announcing advisories since the day Task Force was born.
It also tapped
the social media networking too bring stakeholders into working together with
the beleaguered electric cooperative, dubbed as power of the people”
networking.
Aware that
most residents now use mobile phones, the Task Force applied the use of SMS
(short messaging system) in reminding power consumers of their obligations and
informing them of power interruptions.
Several Ulamas
have volunteered to form part of speakers’ bureau for the Task Force in its
five-month rehabilitation work to convince the public in supporting their
upgrade efforts, that is, to restore normal electricity supply in the
municipalities.
Security
actors and an energy official from the Department of Energy (DOE) in the
taskforce have come out with resolutions on inventory, audit and housekeeping.
New personnel
to assist the Task Force will infuse added energy to confront some potential
hostile households.
Metering
project continues to be the major deliverable and was being readied when funds
will be downloaded.Officials said once funds are fully downloaded, reforms would be completed.Other
departments in LASURECO are of importance in the reform process such as the
disconnection and surveillance, revenue and regulatory, accounts and management,
