Landslide strikes anew in South Cotabato upland town

LAKE SEBU, South Cotabato- Sudden light to moderate rains have triggered landslides anew in this upland town causing a brief stop of traffic flow.The landslide occured in Barangay Poblacion, according to ChairpersonBernard Caat.To ensure no lives are lost, the village government ordered forced evacuation to a number of residents living beside or near mountains vulnerable to earth movement due to loosened soil.Lake Sebu Mayor Antonio Fungan also appealed to his constituents to immediately evacuate if heavy down pour occurs.Residents were advised to stay with their relatives in safer areas or at the village gymnasium designated as evacuation center.Emergency assistance to affected families were already provided by the local government.Last week, several landslides occurred along the main highway in Lake Sebu, putting lives of residents and commuters in danger.
