KIDAPAWAN CITY (Sept. 11/NDBC) – At least 2,477 emergency situations were effectively acted upon by the Call 911 Emergency, a disaster and rescue group of the Kidapawan City Government, officials said. Today, 911 Emergency, is celebrating its first year anniversary. Mayor Joseph Evangelista said the emergency unit has saved several lives by responding quickly and rushing victims to life saving institutions. Noel Dizon, a hotel owner and Jenn Policarpio, Barangay Ilomavis village chair, were among the beneficiaries of emergency responses by 911. Both said they witnessed how quick the response was of the emergency center, especially during times of vehicular accidents, armed skirmishes, disasters or calamities, and rescue operations. Most of the recipient of emergency cases were rushed at the Cotabato Provincial Hospital in Amas Complex, Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City, and other hospitals nearby, using the 911 ambulance. The ambulance services are free, according to Psalmer Bernalte, head of the Public Safety Division and Call 911. Evangelista, also chair of the Kidapawan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said the 911 was established as part of the local government’s public safety program. The Call 911 was the first and the only emergency center created in North Cotabato, and even in the whole Soccsksargen or Region 12. (NDBC)
