KBP-Kidapawan, DENR, NUJP join BroadcasTreeing

KIDAPAWAN CITY
(Sept. 1/NDBC) –- In an effort to help preserve the environment for the next
generation of Filipinos, the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP)
Kidapawan City chapter, along with the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources planted about 150 trees Saturday.
The trees were
planted by KBP members and personnel of the DENR North Cotabato at a vacant lot
in Barangay Amas as part of the nationwide tree planting initiated by KBP in
partnership with the DENR and the Department of Interior and Local Governments
(DILG) and the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) Kidapawan
chapter.

BroadcasTreeing 2014,” the activity was simultaneously held Saturday in various
KBP chapters nationwide.
Now in its
fourth year, the KBP initiated urban greening was in support to the National
Greening Program (NGP), a massive forest rehabilitation program of President Aquino.DENR-North
Cotabato said the NGP is one of the climate change mitigation strategies of the
government that seeks to enhance the country’s forest stock to absorb carbon
dioxide, which is largely blamed for global warming.
The DENR also
said the NGP was designed to reduce poverty, providing alternative livelihood
activities for marginalized upland and lowland households in line with seedling
production and care and maintenance of newly-planted trees.
In North
Cotabato, the tree planting activity was participated by member radio stations
and non- government organizations, according to KBP member Wilnard Bacelonia, Radyo
Bida Kidapawan news anchor.(NDBC)
