I'm not running for the senate
Shortly after I made a report to Cabinet this afternoon about the success of the task to contain the Bird Flu in Central Luzon, President Rody Duterte generously praised me and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) and joked that I was ripe for a Senate run.The Cabinet members let out a big laugh but as soon as the laughter died down, I immediately switched on my microphone to issue a clarification. Mr. President, I would like to publicly declare to you and the Cabinet that I have no intention to run for the Senate, I told the President. If you don't kick me out from my position, I would like to remain as your Agriculture Secretary up to the end of your term, I added.Of course, the President always has the final repartee and he saidand Ganyan man yan, pa-ayaw-ayaw. The members of the Cabinet laughed again.Seriously, I am declaring for the umpteenth time that I do not intend to run for Senator.I love my job and I am happy doing the work that I do now for the Filipino farmers and fisher folks.I have to make this official declaration because of talks going around the halls of Congress and the Senate that the reason why I move around a lot is because I plan to run for the Senate. This might affect my work and my performance.I am not running for the Senate. I only like to be Secretary of Agriculture. This is my passion. This is my joy.
