Gunmen kill Maguindanao prov'l engineer, 2 others in ambush
SHARIFF AGUAK,
Maguindanao – Gunmen on board a tricycle ambushed and killed today the
provincial engineer of Maguindanao and two others shortly after lunch Thursday.
Police
identified the victims as Maguindanao Engr. Landap Guinaid, 46, his son Anwar
and a relative, Samaon Lauban Pagkawilan, 56.
Survived but injured
was Guianid’s other son, Pfc. Abdulaziz Lauban Guinaid, 25.
The victims
were on board a Toyota Hi Lux vehicle driven by Abdulaziz Guinaid heading
toward Cotabato City when ambushed by the gunmen along the national highway in
Barangay Satan, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao, few meters away from the
headquarters of 34th Infantry Battalion.
The victims
had just left the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) compound heading to
Cotabato City when they were waylaid at 12:45 p.m.
The victims
managed to trade shots with the ambushers who also suffered injuries, according
to witnesses.
While Pfc.
Guinaid was injured, he managed to fire back using his M-16 Armalite rifle
while Abdulaziz kept on driving the pick-up away from the ambush site.
He drove the
car until Guindulungan town where he sought police assistance.
Police rushed
them to Cotabato Regional and Medical Center the victims, the provincial
engineer, his son and the driver were all declared dead on arrival.
Pfc. Guinaid
survived the ambush.
Police and military
remained clueless on the identities of the ambushers and the motive.
