Gunmen kill Koronadal City village chair

KORONADAL CITY – Unidentified gunmen today shot dead a village official and injured
his cousin in a daylight shooting in Barangay Rotunda, this city, police said.

Jr, spokesperson for police in SOCCSKSARGEN, said Chairperson Baltazar Bermil,
50 of Barangay Topland, was driving the Barangay Patrol Vehicle with Nida
Parcon heading to the city center when shot by one of two men on motorbike at
10:20 a.m.
Galgo said the
suspects on board a Kawasaki Baja motorbike were seen tailing the victim from
Barangay Topland. As he was nearing a
gasoline station, the suspects overtook the patrol vehicle and repeatedly shot
Bermil.
The official
died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspects
were both wearing crash helmets.
Parcon was
also injured and rushed by passersby to Allah Valley hospital.
Motive of the
attack and identities of the gunmen remained unknown.
Two weeks earlier,
police raided the Barangay Topland where nine persons were arrested, including a
relative of Bermil.
The Koronadal
City Anti-Drug Council said some P2.3 million worth of prohibited drugs were seized
from the suspects.
Before his murder,
Bermil has repeatedly said that eradication of illegal drugs in his village was
