Grenade found in So. Cotabato Army detachment
TAMPAKAN, South Cotabato -- A militiaman was only trying to clean the surrounding of a detachment of garbage and leaves. But he found something that surprised him - a live hand grenade - among the fallen tree leaves.Roderick Lawian, a member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) station in PurokIrrigation, Barangay Liberty, Tampakan, South Cotabato, was taken aback after he found the grenade at about 7 a.m. yesterday.The grenade that bomb experts described as a little bit dilapidated but still capable of exploding was inserted in a used vehicle tire and left in front of the detachment hall.Police said the suspects were not known but the motive was clear to kill or hurt anyone near it if it explodes.Last week, a grenade explosion occurred in the same camp but nobody was hurt.The communist New Peoples Army (NPA) which had been waging four decades of armed struggle against the government is operating in Tampakan, South Cotabato.
