Former soldier dies in Sto Nino shooting

KORONADAL CITY - A former soldier was shot dead by still unidentified gunman in a remote village of Sto Nino, South Cotabato in what police believed was related to illegal drugs.Chief Inspector Joel Fuerte, police chief of Sto Nino PNP, said the victim,Saturan Caldea, was standing in Barangay Ambalgan infront of a house owned by a certain Sally Bagon when a lone gun man arrived and shot him without any provocation at 5:30 p.m. Monday.Barangay Ambalgan is a known illegal drug trade center in Sto Nino.Caldea, a former member of Army Scout Rangers convicted of murder, sustained multiple gunshot wounds from cal. 45 pistol and died on the spot.He was released from the South Cotabato Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center four years ago.Fuerte said investigators are looking at illegal drug trade as among the possible motives of the Caldea's murder.
