Foam producer donate mattresses to Marawi conflict victims
LANAO DEL SUR – Four hundred elderly conflict-stricken Maranaos in Marawi City received mattresses from a private firm distributed Tuesday via the Lanao del Sur provincial government. The mattresses were donated by the Philippine foam manufacturing firm Uratex on the behest of Lanao del Sur Gov. Soraya Alonto-Adiong.In a statement Monday, the Lanao del Sur provincial government said Vice President Leni Robredo helped them secure the mattresses from Uratex. The 400 Maranaos who benefitted from the donation are now residing in the temporary shelters for victims of last year’s devastating five-month siege of Marawi City by combined Maute and Abu Sayyaf. The conflict resulted in the deaths of hundreds, among them state security men and innocent civilians, and left dozens of centuries-old Maranao enclaves in ruins. The Lanao del Sur provincial government said in its emailed statement that it is grateful to the Uratex and toRobredo for helping victims of the conflict now in core shelters constructed by the government in Barangay Sagonsongan in Marawi City.Marawi City is the capital of Lanao del Sur, a component-province of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
