Ex-cop, pal die in anti-drug ops in South Cotabato
KORONADAL CITY – Police anti-narcotics operatives killed a former police officer and
his companion for resisting arrest during anti-drug operation Friday dawn.
Supt. Aldrin
Gonzales, the spokesperson of Police Regional Office (PRO-12), said elements of
Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit and Sto Nino town police office were to
serve search warrants against former Police Officer 2 Edgar Porras in Barangay Poblacion
when he and a companion opened fire on approaching lawmen.
Killed during
the 3:30 a.m. law enforcement operation were Porras, a former police officer
assigned in the Caraga region, and companion in illegal drug trade Henry Vera. Porras was dismissed from service due to his
frequent absences from service.
According to
Gonzales, the police unit seized from Porras a 9mm caliber submachinegun and ammunition
and a .38 caliber revolver from Vera. A total of 19 sachets of suspected shabu
were seized from the two slain suspects.
Police also
arrested Rene Ybanez for possession of magnum 357 pistol.
It was a
legitimate operation and ended bloody when the slain suspects opened fire on

To date, PRO-23
records show a total of 55 drug personalities were killed in 678 anti-drug
