Davao Mayor Sara distribute relief supplies to Marawi folk
LANAO DEL SUR --- Presidential daughter Sara Duterte distributed on Sunday relief supplies and multi-vitamins to conflict-stricken residents of Marawi City.Lanao del Sur Vice Gov. Mamintal Adiong, Jr. said Monday Duterte, incumbent mayor of Davao City, also gave internally-displaced Meranao children school bags.Marawi City residents are still recovering from the adverse impact of the five-month conflict there in 2017 that Maute and Abu Sayyaf terrorists instigated.The hostilities resulted in the deaths of more than a thousand, among them soldiers and police personnel, dislocated more than 300,000 people and left historic centuries-old Meranao dwelling enclaves in ruins. We are grateful to Mayor Sara Duterte for coming over to see for herself the situation of the IDPs and how we in the provincial government are struggling to restore normalcy in Marawi City, Adiong said.While in Marawi City, Duterte, figurehead of the newly-formed Hugpong ng Pagbabago, and Adiong, co-chairman of the Ompia Party in Lanao del Sur, forged a political alliance binding both parties to work together for political stability in Lanao del Sur.They signed a mutual political cooperation compact in the presence of local officials and representatives of various sectors in Marawi City and from nearby Lanao del Sur towns.Lanao del Sur covers 39 towns and more than 90 barangays in its capital, the conflict-wracked Marawi City.The province is part of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, which also covers Maguindanao, the island provincesof Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, and Lamitan City.
