CITY, (Sept. 12/NDBC) – The agriculture department in Central Mindanao region
has opened nominations for next year’s Gawad Saka Search.
Amalia
Jayag-Datukan, DA 12 regional executive director, on Friday has encouraged farmers,
fishers and other farming institutions to join the 2015 Gawad Saka Search for
this will be a great venue where their exemplary contributions in the
agricultural development in the region and in the country shall be recognized.
Gawad Saka
Search is an agency’s annual undertaking in cooperation with the local
government units, other government institutions, non-government organizations
and private sector which provides due recognition to farmers, fisher folks and
people’s groups whose exemplary contributions to the agricultural development
of the country serve as an inspiration to others.
Search is composed
of three main categoriesand institution, individual and commodity.
Under the
institution category, various farming organizations can choose from the sub-categories
to participate.
These include Farm/Fisherfolk
Family Young Farmer/Fisherfolk
Organization Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council
(FARMC) Rural Improvement Club (RIC) Barangay Food Terminal (non-LGU
andamp LGU) Small Farmer/Fisherfolk Organization Municipal/City Agricultural
andamp Fishery Council (MAFC/CAFC) and Provincial Agricultural andamp Fishery
Council (PAFC).
Forindividual
categories, farmers and fisher folks can participate in search for outstanding
Young Farmers/Fisherfolk Agricultural Entrepreneur (Micro, Small and Medium)
Agricultural Scientist and Agricultural Researcher.
In the
commodity category, the aspirants can join the Search for Outstanding Rice
Farmerand Rice Farmer Adopting Integrated Rice-Rice Based Farming Systems Hybrid
Farmer Corn Farmer Coconut Farmer Sugarcane Farmer High Value Commercial
Crops (Vegetables) Farmer Organic
Agriculture Farmer Small Animal Raiser Large Animal Raiser Fisherfolk
(Fish Culture and Fish Capture) and Cassava Farmer.
DA-12 had been
a consistent Gawad Saka awardee in the past years.
In 2013, SOCCSKSARGEN
region made it big by producing three national awardees. They are Dr. Cayetano
Pomares – outstanding agricultural scientist Dr. Melchor Serquiña –
outstanding coconut farmer and Leonardo Primne Jr. – outstanding fisherfolk
(fish culture) where each of them received P 150,000 cash prize, plaque and a
presidential citation.

farmers, fisher folks and groups are advised to visit their town, provincial

Datukan did
not give any prediction on the awards that farmers in SOCCSKSARGEN region hopes
to achieve.
The region is
composed of the provinces of North andSouth Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat,
Sarnaggani and the cities of Cotabato, Kidapawan, Koronadal, Tacurong and Gen.
