COTABATO CITY - Mayor Japal Guiani Jr passed away early today due to cardiac arrest, the city mayor's office announced. A lawyer, Guiani has been in government service
for about 20. He was firstas City Councilor in 1992.

He is married toMaryssa Guerrero Guiani,
supervising nurse at theCotabato Regional and Medical Center where they
had four children.

Guiani's father was Japal Guiani Sr, former
Regional Trial Court Judge and commissioner of theCommission on
Elections.
