COTABATO CITY -- The administrative officer of the Cotabato City
Schools Division Office, Johnny Balawag, was recognized as one this year’s Most
Inspiring and Most Influential Teachers of the Philippines by the SACEDA Youth
Lead and the National Youth Commission.

Balawag is one of two teachers from the Cotabato City Schools
Division who received the award in Dumaguete City on Februray 27. The other is
Rommel Villa, a teacher from the Cotabato City Central Pilot Elementary School.

Of the 26 named as Most Inspiring Teachers from out of 50
nominees from across the country, four came from Mindanao – Balawag, Villa, another
teacher from Koronadal City, and two others from Surigao City and Agusan del
Sur.

All four were also named Most Influential Teachers.

All winners will go on an all-expenses paid educational field
trip to Brunei and Australia in April and September, respectively.

Balawag, or Sir Johnny, has been serving in the field of
education for 20 years, starting out in 1997 as an ordinary teacher.

Sir Johnny believes more teachers in the Cotabato City Schools
Division are worthy of recognition for their service.

We are expecting that there will be more teachers who can be
recommended for recognition nationwide. We are hoping that our teachers will
be more motivated and inspired in teaching because there are programs like this
that recognizes the work of our teachers, he said when interviewed over
DXMS-Radyo Bida Cotabato.

Our concept is one of continuous improvement. We do not strive
for perfection, but we need to continuously improve specially in our
performance. Because of the new trends in our education, everyone must be
committed to new possibilities and improvements, he said of the need for all
teachers to step up in their performance as part of their commitment to molding
the youth.

This is the second time teachers from Cotabato City were
recognized as Most Inspiring Teachers by Saceda Youth Lead.

First to get the
award in 2017 was Gomer Carcueva, a teacher at Notre Dame of Cotabato before
working at the Cotabato City Schools Division.Villa was recognized for theinnovations he introduced to student government elections at the Cotabato City Central Pilot School (CCCPS).Villa, a Master of Arts in Teaching, has been serving CCCPS for the past 20 years now.Villa was nominated for the award following his Saceda Youth Camp Training last April 2017 in South Cotabato. This is a once in a lifetime experience, to be recognized as Most Inspiring Teacher, tapos first time pa nila to give the Most Influential Teacher award and nakuha natin, Villa, more known as Sir Rommel to colleagues and students, said. The aim was to transcend the learning and not only to hold the experience to yourself but to also share it with others in the division level, he added. One of his notable advocacies at CCCPS is the non-participation of teachers in the student election process. Sir Rommel made sure the Board of Election Officers was made up of pupils who are non-votersand sixth graders.Campaign materials such as bookmarks and others are also banned during the election. Only a 4x8 tarpaulin is allowed for each of the running parties. Rommel is a graduate of Grebona Elementary School, Midsayap Dilangalen National High School, and Notre Dame of Midsayap College with a Degree in Elementary Education with Specialization in Early Childhood Development. He is the eldest in six siblings born to a farmer and an eatery cook, a husband, and a father to three daughters. MOST INSPIRING TEACHER.
