Cops kill man in anti-drug operation, seize SAF-44 rifle
PIKIT, North Cotabato – A former town councillor was killed during big time anti-drug operations here at dawn today, police said.Supt. Maximo Sebastian, Region 12 police Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Force (RAIDSOTF), who led the raiding team, identified the slain former town councillor as Dindo Piang.Piang failed in his bid for thetown vice mayor of Pikit in last May 2016 local polls.
Armed with search warrants, police authorities backed by 7th Infantry Battalion troopers, raided at 4 a.m. today, three residential compound near the town public market. Piang resisted arrest and opted to shoot it out with lawmen, our troops responded accordingly,” Sebastian said.Sebastian said among the houses searched was owned by Nasser Karim, son of Senior Inspector Sindatu Karim, incumbent deputy police chief of Pikit.Police seized from Nasser were four M-16 Armalite rifles, two M-14 rifles and ammunition. No cal. 60 machine gun was recovered from Nasser.One of the Armalite rifles waslater confirmed to be owned by one of the Special Action Force (SAF) who died during the infamous operation against international terrorist in Mamasapano, Maguindanao in January 2015.
Police are still searching houses in a cordoned portion near Pikit Public Market.
