Cops kill drug suspect with grenade, Army arrest man with M-16
COTABATO CITY –- Police here killed a drug suspect who tried to lob a hand grenade during
a drug buy bust operation Friday night here.
Chief Inspector
Aldrin Gonzales, speaking for police in Region 12, said Mohammad Dipatuan Awal
tried to throw a hand grenade when police enforcers were to arrest him following
a drug buy bust operation.
Gonzales said
Awal pulled a fragmentation grenade after sensing he was dealing with a poseur buyer
during the 11:30 p.m. operation in Barangay Bagua 2, Cotabato City.
This prompted
the police to fire on him, Gonzales said.
Elements of
Coabato City police station 4 rushed Awal to the Cotabato Regional Hospital
where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His companion,
Saydamin Balao, a member of Barangay Police Action Team (BPAT), was arrested.
Recovered from
Balao was the hand grenade, 14 sachets of suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia and
marked money.
In
Maguindanao, soldiers from 57th Infantry Battalion arrested Alimudin
Sangcopan, a member of private armed group, and recovered from him an M-16
Armalite rifle with ammunition during law enforcement in Barangay Labo-Labo,
Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao at 5 p.m. Friday.
Major Gen.
Arnel dela Vega, 6th Infantry Division commander, said Sangcopan has
been turned over to Shariff Aguak town police for filing of charges. (Edwin O.
