Cops hunt down ex-ARMM cop in drug trade, kill motorist for resisting check up
KIDAPAWAN CITY – The police in M’lang, Cotabato has intensified their hunt against a former police officer assigned at the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) for his alleged connections with a drug and carnapping syndicate operating in Central Mindanao.Chief Inspector Rolly Oranza, chief of M’lang PNP, identified the subject as Benjamin Giyani Wahadin, who, for several years now, has been hiding at Purok Santo Nino in Barangay Buayan, M’lang.Wahadin, records from PNP, is wanted for carnapping and drug trafficking.According to Oranza, Wahadin has been discharged from his post as PNP officer because of his alleged connections with a drug syndicate.On dawn Monday, Oranza led a search on Wahadin’s hideout, hoping to find him there.Unfortunately, even before the police could reach the suspect’s house, Wahadin has already withdrawn to a still undisclosed place.Police recovered from the subject’s house were two big sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride or locally known as shabu and a fragmentation grenade.Oranza said that while search on Wahadin’s hideout was ongoing, he assigned some of his men to conduct a road block along Barangay Buayan.During the highway operation, a still unidentified male person driving a motorcycle happened to pass through the road block but refused to subject himself to a thorough check.In fact, according to Oranza, the suspect tried to fire his pistol towards the police manning the checkpoint.But his men, he explained, were quick to respond and fired back.They hit the suspect but immediately brought him to the M’lang District Hospital for treatment. He later expired while being treated, according to Oranza.Oranza found out that the suspect was driving a stolen motorcycle, which he carted away from a residence in nearby Tulunan, North Cotabato.Police also recovered from the motorcycle’s U-BOX were tools, bonnets, several t-shirts, and master keys, which they theorized were used by the suspect on his carnapping activities.The body of the still unidentified suspect lies at one of the funeral parlors in M’lang town, according to Oranza.
