Cops find, detonate IED in Midsayap

MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato -- Police authorities here are determining who was behind the bombing attempt here that alert civilians foiled and the detonated by the local police.Senior Supt. Gilbert Tuzon, Midsayap police chief, said the IED fashioned from pyrotechnic powder, cut nails as shrapnel and mobile phone as triggering device.It was left along Sto Nino Street, Barangay Poblacion 6, and was found at about 3 p.m. Thursday.Tuzon lauded the civilians for being alert and vigilante in the face of bombing threats from lawless groups.In Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, police believed an improvised pipe bomb went off while a grass fire hit the village of Narra on Thursday morning.Nobody was hurt in the blast but its loud sound sent jitters among the villagers nearby.
