Basilan student rules ARMM Regional PopQuiz
COTABATO CITY – The
Department of Education–ARMM held its Regional Festival of Talents, in
collaboration with its partner institutions,the Commission on Population-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (POPCOM-ARMM)
and POPCOM XII on January
17.It was held at POPCOM 12 office in Cotabato City with the theme Post Millennial Filipinosand Renewed Hope vs. Risks. The festival included Pop Quiz, Jingle Writing and Singing Competition,
Poster Making and Essay Writing Contest. Participants from the 9 divisions of
ARMM participated in the competition.They came from the Divisons of
Basilan, Lamitan, Lanao del Sur I and Lanao del Sur II, Maguindanao I and
Maguindanao II.
For the Popquiz centered on topics about Family Life and Responsible Parenthood, Gender and Development,
Population and Reproductive Health, and Population, Environment, Resources and
Sustainable Development.
Ms. Venice Charlotte
Punzalan, of Colony National High School, Lamitan Division, emerged as the
champion for the PopQuiz. Apart from the medal and certificate of participation
and recognition, she received a cash prize of PhP 1,500.00.Camille E. Montanao
of Conception National High School, Basilan Division took the second place
while the third placer was Jamel E. Lidasan of ARMM Regional Science High School,
Maguindanao II Division.
This annual festival of
talents aim to enhance young people’s knowledge and skills in their respective
fields of interest, while spreading awareness on the effects of population and
its effects in their future lives. The young people showcase their skills and
talents in music and arts through various contests such as essay writing,
jingle writing and singing competition, and poster-making. The criteria for
judging included originality and relevance to the theme.
The winners of the
Regional Festival of Talents activities will represent ARMM Region in the
National Festival of Talents to be held in Dumaguete City on February 20-23 of
this year. In 2016, the
Population Commission-ARMM garnered sixth place in the over-all standing for
the National Festival of Talents, held in General Santos City.
