Army, PNP unearth bomb components in Banga, S.Cotabato
BANGA, South Cotabato -- Police and military authorities recovered in a remote village here explosives believed to be hidden by communist rebels, police said Saturday.And there could be more buried in the same village, according to Chief Inspector Jardi Mont Sibal, Banga town police chief.Sibal said prior to the discovery of five clamour mines, improvised bombs and battery, an Army informant alerted authorities about explosives buried in the village of Lamba.Technical Sgt. Felipe Paranaque of 27th Infantry Battalion coordinated with Banga PNP to excavate the explosives.Communist rebels operate in this part of South Cotabato.After the explosives were unearthed, the Army informant said at least 15 ordnance have been buried in the village.Sibal said the discovery was strong enough to destroy a concrete bridge.POlice have appealed to residents to immediately alert the police should they discover by chance explosive buried in the village.
