Army foils bombing attempt in Maguindanao's Sagayan fest
BULUAN, Maguindanao -- A powerful improvised bomb planted in
the provincial capitol grounds here was safely defused by Army bomb experts,
the military said today.
Colonel Ricky Bunayog, 33rd Infantry Battalion
commander, said the powerful improvised bomb fashioned from 81mm mortar with an
alarm clock as trigger mechanism was placed inside a black backpack and left in
front of the provincial risk reduction and management office in Poblacion
Buluan.
The IED was found at about 8 a.m.
Bunayog said the attempt was meant to disrupt the 5th
Sagayan Festival in celebration of Maguindanao’s foundation anniversary.
Various activities are slated at the capitol grounds where
the IED was found. Nobody claims
responsibility.
