Army brigade joins Muslims in Eid'l Adha fest

TACURONG CITY -The military's 601stBrigade has joined the Muslim community in celebrating the Eid'l Adha (Feast of sacrifice) by opening its camp grounds for the congregational prayers among Muslim residents of Barangay Mayta here on Saturday morning. Col. Melquiades Feliciano, the army’s brigade commander, said their officials and their selective military personnel’s have also participated in the congregational prayers as support to the Muslim residents celebrating its most significant event as Islam believers. We want that our Islam believers in our area of responsibilities would feel that the military is also one with them in commemorating the important celebration in their lives,” Col. Feliciano said in amobile phone interview. Feliciano disclosed at least 60 Muslim families trooped inside their military camp to join in the early morning prayers headed by the campImams. We accorded them warmth welcome inside our camp to make them feel comfortable,” Feliciano said. Col. Feliciano claimed it was the first time that the military opened its camp and allowed the Islam believers in for this kind of activity. He committed to support other Muslim activities in their locality. They will have our 100 percentsupport, anytime,” the brigade commander stressed. Feliciano as gestures of being one with the Muslims in celebrating the Eidl Adha has gave them a fattened cow for the festivity. Islam believers and military men have worked together in butchering the cow and its meat was given equally to the Muslims attending the congregational prayers and even those in the nearby villages. Feliciano said this will served as early Christmas gift among Islam believers in Tacurong City and vowed to repeat the same activity in the future. For as long as I am the brigade commander, expect the same activity to happen next year,” Feliciano said .
