Another NorCot farmer wins Gawad Saka national awards
KIDAPAWAN
CITY – Another farmer in North Cotabato has brought honors to
the province and to the Department of Agriculture after she was named national
awardee of the 2014 Gawad Saka National Awards.
Ella
Pobre of Alamada, North Cotabato was this year’s Gawad Saka National Awardee
for High Value Crops, according to Amalia Jayag-Datukan, DA-12 regional
executive director.
In
her letter to North Cotabato Gov. Emmulou Mendoza, Director Datukan said Pobre
was chosen as this year’s awardee for high value crops because of the good
performance of her palay, corn and coconut trees in Alamada.
Pobre
first won the Gawad Saka regional level and represented the region in the national
contest along with other outstanding farmers from North Cotabato.
After
winning the regional contest, a team of national evaluators visited the farm of
Pobre for ocular inspection and validation.
The
evaluators found Pobre’s farm well organized and absolutely unique from other
farms, Datukan said.
This
is the second time that a farmer in North Cotabato won the individual farmer awards
of Gawad Saka National Awards since 2012.
Awarding
rites is scheduled on December 18 at the Philippine International Convention
Center o PICC,
Roxas
Boulevard, in Pasay City.
North
