Alamada health officeand Suspected cholera outbreak contained
ALAMADA, North Cotabato - At least 79 villagers from a remote community here have been downed by suspected cholera outbreak late last month.But health and localauthorities have said the illness had been contained.Ruben Cadaba, Alamada municipal administrator, said only 26 patients, mostly children, were rushed to the town hospital, treatedand have returned home. They all came from the sub-village of Upper Tambunan, Barnagay Guiling, Alamada, North Cotabato.Dr. Myrna Pascua of the municipal health office said no fatality was reported. She told DXMS Radyo Bida that health workers were immediately sent to Barangay Guiling on the day the report broke out on March 31.Sources of water, an open well, had been treated to prevent further diarreah.Health and local officials believed the sources of water were contaminated due to the drought.Last year, about 700 villagers were hospitalized due to an outbreak of cholera in the village of Dado.
