6th ID recruits to train on promotion of interfaith peace
MAGUINDANAO --- The latest recruits of the 6thInfantry Division are to become peace advocates, to serve and protect people with different faiths under the Philippine flag. This was emphasized Tuesday to this news outfit by the 6thID’s newly-installed commander, Gen. Cirilito Sobejana. He said the newly-recruited trainees shall have special lectures on religion and culture-sensitive peacekeeping missions.Sobejana said Tuesday the 285 candidate-soldiers, 29 of them women, were admitted as trainees during a symbolic rite on June 1 at Camp Siongco in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao. He said they comprise the second batch of 6thID’s recruits for 2018, now at the Division Training School in Barangay Semba in Datu Odin Sinsuat, near Camp Siongco, 6thID’s command center. Unlike those who have gone through trainings outside of Mindanao, they will be taught insights on peace-building in the context of Muslim-Christian and Lumad unity, Sobejana said. The 6thID’s training facility has been giving trainees extensive education on peace-building focused on propagation of solidarity among Mindanao’s Muslim and non-Muslim communities. The provinces under the 6thID --- Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and parts of Lanao del Sur --- are home to Muslim and Christian residents. The four provinces are also covered by a now 21-year ceasefire accord between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. The 6thID is involved in various peace-building programs complementing the government-MILF peace process. This batch, just like the batches trained ahead, will be honed as peace advocates, not just soldiers who are to serve the nation, but builders of peace and understanding among Muslims, the Christians and the Lumads as well, Sobejana said. sand//apis.mail.yahoo.com/ws/v3/mailboxes/@.id==VjN-28Og0-Yfm5P4PKX6UQMqoyLtCixeGkKCZMWc54HQAoNzhQjR8uKRnE7DvYEYMfQOUWhjIv2uHVC2R0Wv8Q9VgQ/messages/@.id==ACb9o5Np2F3sWxY0Cwq2MKQgTME/content/parts/@.id==3/thumbnail?appId=YMailNorrin
