4 lives lost in separate highway crashes in North, South Cotabato
COTABATO CITY - Two freak highway crashes killed four persons, including a village councilman,in North Cotabato and South Cotabato on Friday, reports reaching and//www.ndbcnews.com.ph www.ndbcnews.com.ph today said.The highway crash in Tupi, South Cotabato came when a motorcycle hit a parked dump truck that broke down along a highway in Barangay Poblacion while in Makilala, North Cotabato, a truck driver lost control of his vehicle due to mechanical trouble and hit a motorcycle in front.In the Makilala incident, police traffic officers, said Paquito Sarmiento, 58, a security guard and Crispin Famulagan, 61,village official of Barangay Sto Nino, Makilala town, were on board a Skygo motorbike heading for Kidapawan City.Following close to the two was an Isuzu Elf truck (RCJ-964) driven by Berlyn Jose Quibol, 38 of Buhangin, Davao City.Quibol told Makilala traffic investigators that his truck developed mechanical problem and lost control of the vehicle until it rammed into a motorbike carrying the two victims.Due to strong impact, the village official and the security guard were thrown off to the concrete pavement and were ran-over by another truck.The victims who died on the spotsuffered head injuries and were beyond recognition.Image below shows one of the fatalities in Makilala road mishap courtesy of Wiliamor Magbanua. Delco said the motorcycle was speeding and apparently its driver did not notice the parked dump truck.The victims were seriously injured in the head and body and were rushed by pedestrians to a hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.Truck driver Dioscoro Supiter, 46, also of Tacurong City, surrendered to police.The highway crash happened despite the strict implementation of speed limit ordinance in Tupi.
