22 hurt by f'cracker in Region 12
COTABATO CITY – Twenty two persons have been injured by firecrackers in Region 12, four
of them hurt during the New Year’s Eve revelry, a health official today said.
As of 6 a.m.
today, a total of 22 persons have been hurt in four province, five cities
region known as SOCCSKSARGEN region.
Jenny Ventura,
focal person of DOH Iwas Paputok campaign, said the figure is 12 percent
lower as compared to the same period last year.
Monitoring
started on Dec. 21 and will last until Jan. 4.
Fourteen of
the victims were male minors and the rest were adults, Ventura said with 14
victims were from South Cotabato, four each in Sarangani and North Cotabato,
one in Sultan Kudarat and one in Gen. Santos City.
One of the
victims, a minor had one of his toes cut due to serious injury while four
others sustained eye injuries from Piccolo, a banned firecracker.
Ventura said
15 of the victims were active firecrackers users while seven were hit by stray
crackers.
Cotabato City
had zero firecracker related injuries, according to Mayor Cynthia Guiani
Sayadi. She attributed the successful Iwas
paputok drive to peoples cooperation and massive information campaign.
Traditionally,
Cotabato City registers high incidence of firecracker related injuries during
