11,250 youth avail ARMM SK list up
COTABATO CITY –
Election officials in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) today
said the 10-day Sangguniang Kabataan registration was a success although it did
not reach its target.
Lawyer Ray
Sumalipao, ARMM election officer, said 11,250 youth aged 15-17, in the
provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi have
availed of the list up from Sept. 20 to Sept. 29.
This is only about
10 percent increase,” Sumalipao told DXMS Radyo Bida, adding that his office was expecting a 20 percent increase. Generally, maganda naman ang
registration natin, peaceful, orderly,” he added.
Sumalipao
attributed the uncertainty of the SK elections, scheduled February 21, 2015, as
among the factors that the turn-out was low.
He also
attributed the low turn out to the fact that most of the youth have already
registered with the Comelec.
He also
believed that the notion of the possibility that the balloting might be postponed.
Since there’s
no law postponing the Feb. 21, 2015 SK elections, our preparations will
continue,” he added.
ARMM is
composed of the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
