KORONADAL CITY - Mayor Leonardo Escobillo of Tampakan, South Cotabatotoday rallied his people to join the campaign to destroy breeding sites of mosquitoes that cause dengue after a child died due to high fever.More than 100 others were downed by dengue in various villagesthat according to Escobillo is a preventable disease if everybody cooperates. I urged our people to work with village officials in cleaning our environment and our surroundings to destroy mosquito breeding sites, Escobillo said in interview by DXOM-AM Radyo Bida Koronadal. Let us stop dengue, now na! he added. Let us not wait for another fatality because of dengue. He said village officials have been directed to lead the campaign in their respective localities to eradicate dengue causing mosquitoes.The local government launched Thursday a campaign dubbed Oplan Kulob, which encourages every citizen to turn upside down any container, bottle, tins, plastic cups, used tires, among others, where mosquitoes can breed and multiply.Health workers also conduct free Complete Blood Count (CBC) and platelet count among citizens at the Rural Health Office.Escobillo said the health unit has hired a medical technologist to fast tract blood examination of patients suffering from high feverat the town health clinic.Fogging operation was also conducted in Barangay Kipalbig, Maltana and Poblacion where high cases of dengue fever were reported.From January to date, at least 105 cases of dengue was reported. This is 63 cases higher as compared to the same period last year.Earlier, the town council has approved a resolution putting the entire community under state of calamity so emergency fund could be used to contain the disease.
