Kidapawan mulls putting city in state of calamity KIDAPAWAN
CITY (Sept. 13/NDBC) – Following flash floods that hit the city’s low-lying
villages, the Kidapawan City government is mulling putting the city under state
of calamity, officials said today.

This
is to allow the executive branch to use its calamity funds in attending to the
needs of affected families and fund some infrastructure repairs to cushion the
impact of natural calamity.

Psalmer
Barnalte, city disaster office chief, said about 306 families from nine
villages have been affected by floods Thursday night.

He said the
city is reviewing its drainage system which authorities believed to be a
contributory factor in the flash floods.(NDBC) City engineering clears drainage after floods KIDAPAWAN CITY
(Sept. 13/NDBC) – Its weekends but the Kidapawan City Engineering Office has
started rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure as a result of Thursday night’s
flash floods.

Engineer
Jolito Hernandez, city engineer, said among the damages were box culverts, bridges,
passageways, walkways after waterways under it were clogged with garbage and
other debris.

If rains
continue and drainage remained clogged with debris, chances are flash floods
will occur anew, he said, appealing to residents near creeks and huge drainage
to move out if heavy rains continue this weekend. (NDBC)

Sultan Kudarat town under state of calamity COTABATO CITY (Sept. 13/NDBC) – Local officials in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao have placed the entire town under state of calamity due to the week-long floods.As floods remained in the low lying areas, classes have been suspended the past four days as most schools were still under water.About 27 villages of Sultan Kudarat remained underwater as the town served as catch basin of floods from the mountains of Buldon, Barira and Matanog as well as water from Rio Grande de Mindanao.Earlier, Maguindanao provincial board placed the entire province under state of calamity due to floods.(NDBC)

Cops clueless on De Mazenod shooting COTABATO CITY
(Sept. 13/NDBC) – Police remained clueless on the motive and identity of gunmen
who strafed a moving multi-cab passenger jeep along De Mazenod Avenue this city
Thursday afternoon.

As a result, a
habal-habal driver, McLee Tungco, 45, was hit by stray bullets and died.

Balquin said
Allan Guiamilon, multi-cab driver told police three men boarded his vehicle
along de Mazenod Avenue. Suddenly, armed
men on board a Toyota pick-up vehicle strafed them with bullets.

Guimelon could
not say why the gunmen on a pick-up wanted his three unidentified passengers
